Lloyd Hotel Amsterdam

El Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy es el primer hotel del mundo de entre una en cinto estrellas. Los iniciadores de ésta peculiar idea se vieron motivados tras la encontrar y curiosear en el equipaje de los huéspedes que durante décadas habían pasado por éste edificio, catalogado como monumento nacional desde 1921, y que inicialmente fue construido como un hotel para los emigrantes.

Nosotros tuvimos la oportunidad de disfrutar de la increíble historia de este edificio donde la nueva arquitectura y su el interior dan testimonio al hecho de que se trata de un edificio empapado de historia. Subiendo una de las escaleras, esta historia se desarrolla en la exposición «Historia Lloyd» que muestra su historia trascurrir a través del tiempo donde este lugar fue:

• Hotel Emigrante 1921-1938: la naviera Royal Dutch Lloyd contruyó el Lloyd Hotel en el muelle IJ, desde el que partían sus barcos. Esta empresa fue a la quiebra en 1935.
• Centro de Refugiados 1939-1940: antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Lloyd Hotel se convirtió en un centro de refugiados para los judíos que querían esconderse.
• Prisión 1941-1989: durante la guerra mundial, los nazis convirtieron el edificio en una prisión. Después de la guerra siguió siendo un centro de detención. En 1965, el Lloyd Hotel se transformó en un centro de detención juvenil.
• Estudios de artistas 1990-2003: entre 1989-1999 el hotel alquilaba zonas y habitaciones como estudios para artistas. En 1996, el ayuntamiento de Amsterdam organizó un concurso de nuevos planes para hoteles, lo que llevó a la apertura del actual Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy en 2004.

El hotel se encuentra en un lugar de fácil acceso para todo el mundo, desde residentes de la zona a artistas y hombres de negocios. Un lugar donde se siente parte de Ámsterdam, y donde se puede conocer gente local mientra se disfruta de comida preparada con alimentos de temporada y disfrutar de alguna exposición en su interior.

Cultural Embassy

Adaptándose constantemente al flujo de geotravellers y viajeros de todo el mundo produciendo una sinergia cultural, la Embajada Cultural (Cultural Embassy) está presente en todo el edificio. Es sede de eventos culturales e inicia y conecta a innovadores personajes de las artes y la cultura entre sí y les invita a hacer nuevas combinaciones entre Lloyd Hotel y su trabajo de cruce experimental, radical y frecuencia límite. En los espacios públicos en el centro del edificio, la Embajada Cultural organiza exposiciones, presentaciones, conferencias, proyecciones y conciertos.

El Hotel Lloyd es para todos los presupuestos. Los precios de las habitaciones varían de rango según el tipo de habitación y temporada, siendo desde 65 € hasta 500 €. La diferencia de precio está vinculada al tamaño de la habitación y servicios incluidos. Nosotros nos alojamos en una habitación de 5 estrellas en la parte superior del techo, y nuestra experiencia fue totalmente increíble junto con nuestra perrita Pau, ya que uno de los puntos importantes de la Lloyd Hotel es que es un hotel que acepta mascotas en Amsterdam, un verdadero hotel para todo el mundo.

Habitaciones

Esparcidas por las 117 habitaciones del hotel Lloyd, se encuentran muchas obras de arte de diseñadores, artistas y arquitectos holandeses. Habitaciones en las que se mezclan muchas de las innovadoras características de diseño del hotel: cuartos de baño plegables, colchas a medida, inusuales lámparas y cortinas que son obras de arte por sí mismos. Hay también objetos históricos, incluyendo el suelo de baldosas de caballete, mesas originales de Lituania, todos los cuales sirven como recordatorio del pasado del edificio. El hotel ofrece cinco categorías de habitaciones organizadas de acuerdo al tamaño, pero todos comparten el mismo nivel de servicio, incluyendo, acceso gratuito a Wi-Fi y TV vía satélite, el uso de la biblioteca de arte, servicio de habitaciones las 24 horas en el menú y muchas otras características.

Es el único hotel del mundo que cuenta con habitaciones que van desde una a cinco estrellas, las cuales se distribuyen de la siguiente manera:

? : habitación con baño compartido, las habitaciones han sido restaurados a su estado original, con azulejos en la pared. Las características de diseño inteligentes maximizan el espacio disponible.
?? : una silenciosa y luminosa habtación con sillas de plástico, bancos de madera, mesas de acero y camas súper cómodas. Estas habitaciones impresionan a su personalidad, ofreciendo un amplio espacio para estar a gusto.
??? : En estas habitaciones se hizo un gran trabajo de diseño crear espacios que se pudiera disfrutar al máximo. 
???? : Las habitaciones son amplias cuyos diseños permanecen fieles al concepto original del monumental edificio, en combinación con el diseño muy perfilado. Estas habitaciones, aunque lo parezcan, no son una burbuja de otro mundo, hay que salir para ir a Ámsterdam, y la exploración urbana comienza aquí.
????? : La mejor opción del hotel, estas habitaciones son enormes. Cada una tiene al menos una característica que va a sorprender, hasta al cliente más viajero, ya sea porque hay un columpio que cuelga de las vigas de madera, un baño amplio desde donde se puede ver la luna, un piano de cola de Estonia, o una cama para dormir ocho. Nosotros, personalmente, disfrutamos de la habitación increíble 607 del hotel Lloyd, las imágenes hablan por sí solas.

Cómo llegar al Lloyd Hotel

• Tercera parada desde la estación central con el tranvía 26: parar en Rietlandpark, la estación está justo detrás de Lloyd Hotel.
• Nosotros vinimos en coche y el hotel es de fácil acceso desde la carretera de circunvalación A10, salida S114 Zeeburg / Centrum / Artis
• Garaje/aparcamiento (entrada a 50 metros del hotel), nosotros dejamos el coche aquí, es un aparcamiento muy seguro.
• Desde el aeropuerto de Schiphol (tren hasta la estación central y de luego el tranvía 26)
• Playa de Blijburg (conexión directa con el tranvía 26)
• Leidseplein + Westergasfabriek (conexión directa con el tranvía 10)
• Fácilmente accesible por barco (el hotel tiene un privado)

The Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy is the first one to five star hotel in the world. The initiators were driven by a curiosity to explore the cultural luggage of guests, the wish to make a connection between Dutch culture and theirs and a zest for making visitors feel welcome. This listed national monument from 1921, which was built as a hotel for emigrants, has been converted by MVRDV architects and reopened in 2004. All 117 rooms differ in size and interior. Over 50 Dutch designers contributed to the interior.

We had the chance to enjoy the amazing history of this building where the architecture and large chunks of the interior of Lloyd Hotel bear witness to the fact that this is a building soaked in history. Climbing one of the staircases, this history unfolds in the Lloyd History exhibition which shows:

• Emigrant Hotel 1921-1938: shipping company Royal Dutch Lloyd built Lloyd Hotel along the IJ-quay, from which their ships departed. They went bankrupt in 1935.
• Refugee Centre 1939-1940: prior to the Second World War, Lloyd Hotel was turned into a refugee centre for Jewish people hiding for the pogroms.
• Prison 1941-1989: during the war the Nazis converted the building into a prison. After the war it remained a detention centre. In 1965 Lloyd Hotel was transformed into a youth detention centre.
• Artist studios 1990-2003: from 1989 to 1999 the hotel was rented out as artist studios. In 1996, the municipality organized a competition for new hotel plans, which led to the opening of the current Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy in 2004.

An easily accessible place for everyone, from residents of the area to artists and businessmen. A place where you feel part of Amsterdam, where you can meet local people, eat local and seasonal food and get in touch with current activities and exhibitions.

Cultural Embassy

Constantly adapting to the flux of geotravellers and the input of cultural partners, the Cultural Embassy is present throughout the building. It hosts and initiates cultural events, connects innovators from the arts and culture to each other and invites them to make new combinations between Lloyd Hotel and their experimental, radical and often boundary crossing work. In the public spaces at the heart of the building, the Cultural Embassy organises exhibitions, presentations, lectures, screenings and concerts.

The Lloyd Hotel for everyone’s budget. The room rates range vary according to room type and season from 65€ to 500€. The difference in price is linked to the difference in surface area. Service policy is the same regardless of the room type. We were in a 5 star room in the roof top and our experience was fully amazing with out pet, because one of the important points of the Lloyd Hotel is that is a pet-friendly hotel, a truly hotel for everyone.

Guest Rooms

Scattered about the 117 guest rooms of the Lloyd Hotel are works of installation art by the crop of Dutch designers, artists and architects. Form and function are blended in many of the hotel’s innovative design features: foldaway bathrooms, bespoke bed-spreads, unusual lamps, and curtains that are works of art in themselves. There are historical artefacts too, including original tiling and antique trestle tables from Lithuania, all of which serve as reminders of the building’s past. The hotel offers five categories of rooms organised according to size, but everyone shares the same level of service, including free, fast WiFi internet access and satellite TV, use of the art library, 24-hour room service from the menu and use of the shop and the Cultural Embassy.

One to five star rooms, the first hotel like that in the world

? rooms: With shared bathrooms, the rooms have been restored to their original state, with wall tiles, panelling and views across the water. Clever design features maximise available space.
?? rooms: Calm, clearcut rooms. Rubber chairs, wooden benches, steel tables and super comfortable beds. Stamped by Dutchness, these rooms do not impress their personality, so they give ample space to be you in them.
??? rooms: For these rooms, the work of big names in Dutch design was involved to create spaces that can be enjoyed to their maximum. The design blends cleverly with the given surroundings, to create interiors that subtly hint at play and that you won’t tire of.
???? rooms: Spacious rooms whose designs stay true to the original concept of the monumental building, combined with cutting edge design. These rooms are not an otherworldly bubble that you have to leave to go into Amsterdam. Urban exploration starts right here.
????? rooms: The pick of the bunch, these rooms are huge. Each one has at least one feature that will surprise even the most well travelled guest, because either there is a swing dangling from the wooden beams, a roomy bath from which you can see the moon, an Estonia grand piano, or a bed sleeping eight. We personally enjoyed the amazing room 607, the pictures speaks by itself.

How to get to the Lloyd Hotel

• Third stop from Central Station by fast tram 26: Rietlandpark stop, directly behind Lloyd Hotel
• We came driving and the hotel is easily accessible from the A10 ring road, exit S114 Zeeburg/Centrum/Artis
• Parking garage (paid, entrance 50 metres from the hotel), we left the car here, it’s a very secured car park
• Close to Schiphol Airport (train to Central Station and fast tram 26)
• Close to Blijburg-beach (direct connection with fast tram 26)
• Close to Leidseplein + Westergasfabriek (direct connection with tram 10)
• Easily accessible by (private) boat
